The Honbu Dojo – the World Headquarters for Shinkendo Japanese swordsmanship, Toyama Ryu, Aikido and Aikibujutsu – is located in Los Angeles, California, USA. Under the guidance of Obata Toshishiro-kaiso, our school teaches the traditional fighting arts of the samurai.

The Honbu Dojo is situated on 2nd Street in the Little Tokyo district, just east of San Pedro, between San Pedro and Central, on the south side of 2nd; the dojo is located on the second floor, with stair and elevator access. Local parking is available in public parking lots (usually with a flat rate after 4PM) and metered parking. Prospective students, please feel free to visit our school to view a class. Classes
Our school welcomes students of all ages and all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. The dojo is currently open six days a week, Monday through Friday from 6:15-8:15pm, and Sunday mornings from 11:00am-1:00pm. Class times alternate to accommodate the different schedules students might have.

Shinkendo $100.00/month - Regular class
Aikido and Aikibujutsu $100.00/month - Regular class
Both arts $150/month
$50.00 – Shinkendo or Aikido (Annual/initiation fee)
$70.00 – Both arts (Annual/initiation fee)

Private Instruction with Obata-kaiso is also available (please ask for details).
Honbu training opportunities for the serious student
Serious students are encouraged to come to the Honbu Dojo for extended training periods when possible, as receiving direct transmission from a true master and founder of an art is a rare and invaluable experience. Honbu staff can offer assistance in locating Hotels and with other necessary preparations. Please e-mail or call the Honbu Dojo at (626) 688-7540 to discuss arrangements.
