Honbu Dojo

The Honbu Dojo (World Headquarters for Shinkendo-Japanese Swordsmanship, Toyama Ryu, Aikido and Aikibujutsu) is located in Los Angeles, California, USA. Under the guidance of Obata Toshishiro Kaiso, our school teaches the traditional fighting arts of the Samurai.

Little Tokyo Square is located at the South/West corner of Alameda and Third street, Downtown Little Tokyo, and our dojo is tucked back on the third floor. One hour free covered parking is available inside LTS from Alameda, and free metered parking (after 6:00pm) is available anywhere outside as well. Classes:

Our school welcomes students of all ages and all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. The dojo is currently open six days a week, Monday through Friday from 6:15-8:15pm, and Sunday mornings from 11:00am-1:00pm. Class times alternate to accommodate the different schedules students might have.

Membership Rates:

Shinkendo $100.00/month - Regular class
Aikido and Aikibujutsu $100.00/month - Regular class
Both arts $150/month
$50.00 – Shinkendo or Aikido (Annual/initiation fee)
$70.00 –Both arts (Annual/initiation fee)
Please ask about family rates.
Private Instruction with Obata Kaiso is also available (please ask for details).

Honbu training opportunities for the serious student:

Serious students are encouraged to come to the Honbu Dojo (world headquarters) for extended training periods when possible. Receiving direct transmission from a true master and founder of an art is a rare and invaluable experience, so don't wait until next year to make the commitment! Honbu staff can offer assistance in locating Hotels and with other necessary preparations. Please email or call Obata Kaiso at (213) 625-1989 to discuss arrangements.
