Honbu Dojo – World Headquarters

The Honbu Dojo – the World Headquarters for Shinkendo Japanese swordsmanship, Toyama Ryu, Aikido and Aikibujutsu – is located in Los Angeles, California, USA. Under the guidance of Obata Toshishiro-kaiso, our school teaches the traditional fighting arts of the samurai.

The Honbu Dojo is situated in the Nichiren Buddist Temple. Parking lot entrance is located off 3rd street.

Classes

Our school welcomes students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. The dojo is currently open five days a week, Monday through Friday from 6:15-8:15pm.

Membership Rates

$150/month: Tuition for Shinkendo, Aikido/Aikibujutsu, or both
$50/year: ISF Annual/initiation fee (due at enrollment and then every January)
Please ask about family rates.
Private Instruction with Obata-kaiso is also available (please ask for details).

Honbu training opportunities for the serious student

Serious students are encouraged to come to the Honbu Dojo for extended training periods when possible, as receiving direct transmission from a true master and founder of an art is a rare and invaluable experience. Honbu staff can offer assistance in locating Hotels and with other necessary preparations. Please email obatasoke@shinkendo.com to discuss arrangements.

Honbu Instructors

Honbu instructors typically have a minimum of 20 years of experience training at the Honbu Dojo.
